Our Verdict

When comparing black beans to peas, we picked the black beans.

Why?

Both are great! However…

In terms of macros, black beans have notably more fiber, carbs, and protein, making them the more nutrient-dense option in this category.

In the category of vitamins, black beans have more of vitamins B5, B7, and B9, while peas have more of vitamins B3, B3, B6, and K, scoring a modest win in this round.

Looking at minerals, black beans have more calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium, while peas have more manganese, selenium, and zinc, so that’s another round to black beans.

In other considerations, black beans are also higher in polyphenols, mostly flavonoids such as anthocyanins and flavonols, including kaempferol. So that’s one more round in black beans’ favor.

Adding up the sections makes for a clear overall win for black beans, but by all means do enjoy either or both, as diversity is best!
