If you use oil on your face sometimes, here’s how to do it right:
Let’s face it…
It’s easy to go wrong, but also easy to correct these 7 mistakes:
- using oils on dry skin: always apply to damp skin to avoid poor absorption and resultant greasiness.
- using too much oil: only a few drops are needed! Use the “put tiny dots here and there, and then massage them in” method to avoid over-oiling.
- using the wrong oils: avoid heavy oils like coconut, avocado, or macadamia unless you have very dry skin; lighter oils like watermelon seed, raspberry seed, or hemp seed suit normal/combination skin.
- not hydrating your skin: oils seal in moisture but don’t hydrate; use a humectant first.
- using rancid oils: expired or oxidized oils can damage skin and are best avoided.
- using only one oil: rotate and/or mix oils to provide a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
- using the same oils morning and night: save richer, slower-absorbing oils for night use and lighter, fast-absorbing ones for day.
