Our Verdict

When comparing celeriac to potato, we picked the potatoes.

Why?

First, a quick note: usually we compare things raw vs raw, in the interests of fairness, since cooking can change things a lot. However, as potatoes cannot be safely eaten raw, we have gone with the “doesn’t add fat” option of “cooked, boiled, drained, without salt” that has been applied also (in the interests of fairness) to celeriac.

Now, with that out of the way…

In terms of macros, potatoes have about 2x more fiber, carbs, and protein, making them the more nutrient-dense food in this category.

In the category of vitamins, celeriac is not higher in any vitamins, while potatoes are higher in vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, and C, winning another round easily.

Looking at minerals, celeriac has more calcium, while potatoes have more copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc, winning easily again.

Adding up the sections makes for an overwhelming overall win for potatoes, but by all means do enjoy either or both, as diversity is best!
