Our Verdict
When comparing plum to pomegranate, we picked the pomegranate.
Why?
Plums are great too, but ultimately it wasn’t close:
In terms of macros, pomegranate has nearly 3x the fiber, more than 2x the protein, and slightly more carbs, winning in this category.
In the category of vitamins, plums have more vitamin A and B3, while pomegranates have more of vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, B7, B9, E, and K, winning a second round easily.
Looking at minerals, plums are not higher in any minerals, while pomegranates have more calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and zinc, winning completely here.
In other considerations, plums have some special cancer-killing properties that are pretty good to have, while pomegranates also have special anticancer properties as well as neuroprotective benefits and more, but only if we count the peel. So this round could be spun in either direction, and in the interests of fairness we’ll call this one a tie.
Either way, adding up the sections makes for a clear overall win for pomegranates, but by all means enjoy either or both, as diversity is best!
