Our Verdict
When comparing edamame to red lentils, we picked the edamame.
Why?
In terms of macros, edamame has slightly more protein while red lentils have slightly more fiber as well as about 2x the carbs; this category could thus be considered a tie or a win for either, depending on how the carbs fit into your general diet. For simplicity, we’ll call it a tie here, but those are things to bear in mind.
In the category of vitamins, edamame has more of vitamins A, B1, B2, B9, C, E, K, and choline, while red lentils have more of vitamins B3, B5, and B6. An uncontentious win for edamame here.
When it comes to minerals, edamame has more calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, and zinc, while red lentils have more iron, phosphorus, and selenium. Another win for edamame.
Finally, edamame has more polyphenols, though both are good. Still, a win for edamame by the numbers.
Adding up the sections makes for an overall win for edamame, but do enjoy either or both; diversity is good!
