Our Verdict

When comparing avocado to banana, we picked the banana.

Why?

Both are great! But…

In terms of macros, avocados have nearly 3x the fiber as well as 2x the protein and a lot more fat (famously health fats, including omega-3s), while bananas have nearly 3x the carbs. So, that’s an easy first-round win for avocados.

In the category of vitamins, avocados have more of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B7, B9, C, E, and K, while bananas have more vitamin B6 (it makes them yellow). So, another clear win for avocados.

Looking at minerals next, avocados have more calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc, while bananas have more manganese and selenium (once again, the claim of bananas being “a good source of potassium” is true but greatly exaggerated; they’re not even in the top 10 of fruits for potassium; just, it was mentioned in a TV show, referenced in another, and then the world never let it go). In any case, another overwhelming win for avocados.

Adding up the sections makes for a clear overall win for avocados, but by all means enjoy either or both, as diversity is good!
