Our Verdict
When comparing beetroot to broccoli, we picked the broccoli.
Why?
Both are certainly great! But beetroot doesn’t look it when standing next to broccoli:
In terms of macros, beetroot has more carbs while broccoli has more protein, for the same fiber. We call this round a win for broccoli.
In the category of vitamins, beetroot has slightly more vitamin B9, while broccoli has a lot more of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, C, E, and K, winning another round easily.
Looking at minerals, beetroot has more copper and manganese, while broccoli has more calcium, phosphorus, selenium, and zinc, winning again.
In other considerations, beetroot has a generous betalain content, especially betanin, while broccoli has a much higher polyphenol content, as well as sulforaphane. So this round’s either a tie or a moderate win for broccoli, depending on how you want to reckon it.
Adding up the sections makes for a clear overall win for broccoli, but by all means do enjoy either or both, as diversity is best!
