You might wish you’d known these sooner…
These tips make life not just better, but easier too:
- Stop labeling foods as good or bad: adopt an 80/20 mindset where 80% of your intake is whole, natural foods and 20% includes whatever you love (healthy or otherwise), avoiding guilt and restrictive cycles.
- Take regular reflection breaks: assess your habits honestly, to ensure your actions align with your goals. That way, you can also optimize your time and effort rather than just doing more.
- Set end dates for plans: having planned timescales helps with motivation, allows for regular reassessment reviews, and makes the process feel manageable and flexible along the way.
- Cycle your macros every few weeks: don’t just “set it and forget it”, because as your body, performance, and metabolism changes, so will your macro needs.
- Repeat a weekly workout progression: use consistent workout schedules week-by-week to track progress and build strength, while mixing up the exercises within the week to prevent boredom.
- Prioritize prehab work: include foam rolling, stretching, and muscle activation in every warm-up. It’s easy to think this is skippable, but it’s actually a strong investment to improve movement, reduce injuries, and increase your long-term performance and physique results.
- Focus on protein: plan meals around hitting your protein targets, while allowing for flexibility with fats and carbs.
- Embrace your laziness: make habit changes realistic by building systems that work even on your worst days—like buying frozen produce, or having home workout options.
- Do a brain dump before bed: write down tasks and thoughts each night, to clear your mind and set up the next day for success.
- Take purposeful breaks: instead of doing nothing, use recovery periods to shift your focus to mobility, new habits, or lower-intensity actions that keep you moving forwards, but without burnout.
