Our Verdict

When comparing blueberries to dates, we picked the dates.

Why?

Surprise! Probably. Blueberries, the famous superfood, and dates, aren’t they just really sugary? But…

In terms of macros, yes dates do have more carbs, but they also have a lot more fiber, too, and the low glycemic index makes them perfectly healthy, enjoyed in moderation, of course. So, we say dates win this round, as the more nutrient dense option.

In the category of vitamins, blueberries have more of vitamins A, C, E, and K, while dates have more of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, and B9, winning on strength of numbers, though it’s worth noting that the blueberries are very good too.

Looking at minerals, blueberries are not higher in any minerals, while dates have more calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and zinc, winning their third round in a row easily.

In other considerations, blueberries do have more polyphenols, so they win a round finally—but it’s worth noting that dates are a good source of polyphenols too!

Adding up the sections makes for a clear overall win for dates, but by all means enjoy either or both, as diversity is good!
